Reach out and touch someone
Owning and operating a small business is a daunting task, and one that often sees the owner/operator working long days, and sometimes nights, just keeping the business going. But while working in isolation might be keeping the lights on (barely), over time this business strategy is going to leave you in the dark. Marketing toolkit letter C is Connection.
Build a Community
Connecting is all about people; the people you already do business with, the people you want to do business with, and especially the people who can help you get more business. I have spoken about the value of forging strong community connections before, but it bears repeating. Each of these communities of people have something important to offer you, and each is more than deserving of a second glance… or a cup of coffee. The relationships that you develop while you are getting to know your community could be the difference between surviving or thriving.
Pick your platform
So how do you connect with your communities… that is up to you. But the important thing to remember is do your homework. Figure out where your communities are, be they prospects or potential business partners, and connect with them on the platform that works best for them. This may be social media, it could be networking events or within volunteer organizations. Whatever the case may be, take the time to locate your peeps and then get out in front of them.
Are you a connector? If so, where do you go to meet with your communities? What tips can you share about taking the first steps?
